The Cumberland County Health Department will be conducting a 6-week Diabetes Self-Management Program workshop at the Gateway Family Success Center at 155 Spruce Street in Bridgeton. The workshops are 2 1/2 hours long; beginning at 4:00pm to 6:30pm on May 20th to June 24, 2013.

Salem Family Success Center plans community clean up event

Gateway Community Action Partnership’s Salem Family Success Center, 14 New Market St., Salem, will hold a community cleanup on Thursday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning at the empty lot at the corner of Union and Elm streets.

 Center gets name change

Gateway Community Action Partnership’s Family Success Center in Bridgeton will be getting a new name.
The Greater Bridgeton Family Success Center, 155 Spruce St., Bridgeton, will hold a May 14 ribbon cutting and open house to formally announce the new name. The center was previously known as the Gateway Family Success Center.

 Gateway wins LVNJ Affiliate of the Year Award

WEST WINDSOR - Literacy Volunteers of Salem and Cumberland Counties, a program of Gateway Community Action Partnership, received the 2013 Alice M. Leppert Award for Outstanding Affiliate Achievement for the second time in three years Saturday at the Literacy Volunteers of NJ annual conference.

 Gateway Head Start focuses on health

Gateway Community Action Partnership’s Head Start centers in Cumberland County, in conjunction with General Mills, is focused on health.
Gateway Head Start centers in Bridgeton, Millville and Vineland will take part in the General Mills funded “Thirty & Thriving” program that promotes the importance of health, nutrition and fitness. The program will begin this month and culminate in May with Summer Olympic Days at the centers.

Gateway, American Red Cross to hold blood drive

Gateway Community Action Partnership’s Gateway Family Success Center, 155 Spruce St., Bridgeton, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26. The blood drive is for children who are on the donor’s list for a blood transfusion.

Gateway Head Start benefits from participation in pajama program

Geri Schleich, 72, is proud of her roles as a wife, mother, librarian, and volunteer who doesn’t know how to say no. All of the above has left her with a life of fulfillment. But her most fulfilling role came after she retired almost 10 years ago.
If an at-risk child in New Jersey is going to bed tonight with a warm pair of new pajamas and a book, Schleich might have something to do with it.

Gateway sets spring schedule for homebuyer classes

Gateway Community Action Partnership’s Housing Department will be having home buyer education classes for the spring semester to educate potential home buyers in every aspect of the home buying process. The free, six-session courses meets from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and will be held on April 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 18, 2013 at Gateway administrative office, 110 Cohansey St., Bridgeton, NJ.
