Public Participation Sought in Survey to Expand NJ SNAP

In an effort to expand participation in NJ SNAP, Hunger Free NJ is circulating a survey to learn more about the barriers to enrollment. We will be publishing the results in a report that will include actionable steps the state can take to improve SNAP participation, which currently reaches just 75 percent of very low-income residents who would likely qualify.

Gateway opens River’s Edge Warming Center

Gateway Community Action Partnership has opened the River’s Edge Warming Center, 7 Washington St., Bridgeton. It is the newest Code Blue warming center and is part of the Cumberland County Code Blue efforts to keep the homeless protected and safe during inclement weather. In accordance with COVID-19 safety guidelines, the center can accommodate 20 homeless individuals on any night the Cumberland County Office of Emergency Management calls Code Blue. Guidelines for calling Code Blue are when temperatures are 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below.

Gateway offices, sites to resume Traditional hours of operation June 15

Gateway Community Action Partnership offices and sites will reopen on Monday, June 15 and resume normal daily hours of operation, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Agency services will be available at agency sites throughout the coverage area. Client intake for program services will be limited to comply with safe social distancing protocols and all employees, clients, guests, etc. will be required to wear a protective face mask inside agency facilities at all times. Please note: the WIC program will continue to provide phone certifications and will not be serving clients in person, until further notice.
